February in review

Image
February is a short month and we were away for a full week. That combined with 2 birthdays and 5 or 6 birthday cakes I baked left little time for sewing! But I did manage a little and a few finish so I am quite pleased with that :-) Quilting: 1. Continue to work on the Harry Potter sew-along and keep up the pace, if possible. I managed to complete 3  blocks to catch up this month, still 2 to do to be back on track.  2.  Scrappy Trip Along - red and green blocks needed to be able to finish the top - no progress 3.  365 challenge, so many more blocks are needed, let's see if I can make a few  -  no progress 4. Dear Jane - BOW and TOW, is that possible?  -  no progress but I have a plan.... 5.  HST modern sampler quilt - make the last block and finish the top  -  no progress 6. Kingfisher Sew Along - prepare more blocks for sew on the go  -  no progress 7. Strips blocks for Moda Sew along  - this is my February APQ challenge! I managed to piece the top this mo

String blocks UFO

Image
A few years back (about 7...) I joined a swap over on Flicker called mini scrap basket for some string blocks (it feels like a very long time ago that all the fun was on Flicker!) I duly made my blocks and sent them on. I received my swaps back, started to make a few more and that was the end of it, a big pile of blocks, ready for another time. Well another time came when I saw this post on Moda blog about the string blocks and suddenly remembered that I had some of those too. So I got the blocks out and started peeling the paper (painful when people had used glue all these years ago), squaring them off and preparing them. And then rather than agonising about colour placement and etc, I decided to just go for it and assemble all the finished blocks I had. I happened to have 56 so that was perfect for a 7x8 setting. I must confess that I am not mad about the fabric/colours/style of the blocks but I am planning to finish and gift it rather than leaving it to languish for a

Harry Potter blocks

Image
The Harry Potter sew-alongs only started last month and I immediately fell behind. I was trying so much to finish my Hepburn pants in January that I never went further than making the first Harry Potter block ... and then of course I started another quilt-along dit good measure. As one of my friend said, I'm beyond help! Anyway I've just started working on the Harry Potter blocks again recently and have managed to complete 3 more. Meet Hermione And Ron And finally Dumbledore. Just Luna and Hagrid missing to the roll call... for now! Linking to  Let's Bee Social ,  Monday Making ,  Linky Tuesday Celine

Threadology BOM

Image
The Threadology Quilt-Along started this month and I must admit I slipped! Blocks 1 and 2 were released and for each blocks, there are 5 to make: 4 small ones and 1 big one. I am planning on using my stash only of course for this quilt-along, since I have quite an extensive stash of course.... The first block is a classic Ohio star in small version and in larger version for 5 happy Stars Block 2 is the easy 9-patch blocks, for 4 little ones and a big one and 5 finished blocks All 10 new blocks in total for this week.  Linking    Let's Bee Social ,  Needle and Thread Thursday ,  Wednesday Wait Loss ,  Midweek Makers Celine

Givre Tee

Image
The theme of the month for Sew My Style is T-shirt. I picked the Givre Tee by Deer & Doe , I liked the design with the 2 fabrics and of course, I have some fabric in my stash that I could use, I am almost embarrassed to say... I picked a print I bought a while ago and a solid black with it. Of course, with 2 colours in the t-shirt there is double the amount of pieces to cut but it is still not that many! It would have come together even quicker if my overlocker wasn't ill...  The construction is not very difficult but the neck band is rather thin and of course that makes it more fiddly. I finished the T-shirt this morning and wore it today in the beautiful sunshine we had all day. After spending the week making patchwork blocks, I have a finish over the week-end! Yes I made it, indeed! just in time for the challenge too. Linking to Whoop Whoop Friday ,  Show off Saturday . One more OPAM for February . Celine

Fancy pants

Image
I really like a challenge or a sew-along or basically some company to keep me going or even sometimes to get me going. I have been planning to make another pair of jeans all year last year and I never plucked the courage to do it. The #sewfancypants challenge on IG was a perfect excuse to pick a trousers pattern that I had in my stash, the Hepburn pants (this is an affiliate link) and some fabric I had in my stash, to try and make it in a month. To make sure I had fancy pants, I added some fancy pockets! and some fancy top-stitching too. Something else that was fancy, was the welt pockets on the back. I had never tried welt pocket before so I was a little apprehensive. All was going relatively well for the construction and I went all the way to the top-stitching, on both pockets, before I realised that I sewn them shut.... So I had a lovely pocket bag but nowhere to get in or out of it..... And that was because I had misunderstood the instructions and folded back the welt too h

January Furtle

Image
Archie the wonder dog has set up a new monthly link up. I loved the monthly link up when Lynne had them as it is such a nice way to look back on the month. And although I'm not always writing much on my blog I have kept it going and I'm glad. Somehow, although I like Instagram, it is so much more instant that it doesn't allow for the whole story of a project or for links etc. January has been quite a productive month for me,  which is always good! I finished a few pieces And started projects/worked on older ones Let's see what February brings! In the meantime I'm linking to  January Furtle  and so can you! Celine
