May Furtle

Image
Well we had lots of bank holidays that's for sure, which makes for longer weekend and shorter weeks. That's really nice in a way but it also means that the work needs to be crammed into much less time! We've also been out and about quite a bit this month so in the end there's been very little time in the sewing room... One boring thing I finally did was to shorten my daughter's curtains (overdue by nearly a year!!) I also made myself a new dress the Pléiades 2. And I spent quite some time with my Cricut to make some favour boxes for my daughter's communion coming up in June... Linking to May Furtle Céline

Pleiades dress

With Spring finally back and a few Holy Communion to attend, I thought I needed a new dress. I had wanted to try some French Poetry patterns for a while and settled on the Pléiades 2 Dress for my first try. Before I left the UK, I had ordered a stash of Lady McElroy fabric from Sherwoods Fabrics that I hadn't yet put to good use. I picked the New York City - Night print, q lovely cotton poplin that has a beautiful drape. The construction of the dress is not very difficult and the explanations are rather clear but for some reasons or another, I ended up unpicking about every single seam...  I lengthen the bodice by 2 cm and the skirt by 10 cm as I wanted longer but didn't want to add frill. I also added pockets, as it says on the label, because it's always a bonus to have pockets!  Now it's finished, I really love it. I've already worn it twice this month and can see it coming out quite often.  And with that, I have a finish for May, which was also my    One mont

Impromptu quilt

Image
My Impromptu quilt is finally quilted! It has taken me so long to pack it up and send it to Kim at l'Atelier du Long Arm, not sure why! Anyway, I sent it very late March and Kim managed to quilt it in April, despite originally thinking she won't get to it until the summer. And I received it back earlier this month. This quilt is huge (90'' square) that's why I wanted to have it quilted professionally.  Kim used a beautiful flowery feather motif on my top. The quilt has a lot of negative space so it needed quite a lot of quilting.  I love the outcome, now it needs trimming and binding which hopefully won't take forever! It's already taken 10 years to get to this point.  Linking to  D esign Wall Monday ,  Midweek Makers ,  Wednesday Wait Loss ,  Happy Needle and Threa d ,  Put your foot down ,  Brag about your Beauties ,   Off the wall Friday ,  Can I get a Whoop Whoop ,  Peacock Party ,  Patchwork and Quilt   Céline

April Furtle

Image
April went in a flash really with not much sewing.  I stated the month with some paper craft for Easter on my Maker. I started by making some carrots to fill with chocolates for the kids and some little rabbits for the adults! I also made a birthday card for my niece on my Cricut.  Very little progress on my Harry Potter quilt but the central portion and it's already so large that I'm really wondering whether I should quilt it in sections. I could add the other 2 rows after.  One project that I managed from start to finish is my new I am Hesat blouse and using a lovely cotton lawn that had been in my stash for a long while. I am Hesat blouse

Image
That wasn't necessarily in my plans for this month but then I came across this challenge on Instagram #SewAprilBlouse23. Blouses/Shirts have been on my wish list for a while but I never really got around sewing one, so I guess this challenge was the perfect push. There were a few patterns that I really liked and shortlisted. I am Hesat was the first one I went for, hoping I'll have time for others!  For the fabric, I raided my stash and pulled out 2 fabrics that I washed. I eventually settled on this beautiful Cobra Corsage lawn fabric that I had been sitting in my cupboard for 5 years! Too pretty to be cut? Well I decided that it's actually too pretty to be hidden in a drawer! The blouse is quite simple since it only has 4 pieces: front,  back and 2 sleeves and the construction is reasonably simple. I lengthen a little body and sleeves but I can't relever by how much 🫢 I hadn't really tried the rolled hem on the overlocker before, so I practiced onto a scrap and

Easter crafting

Image
The Cricut has had some airing time for Easter. I had seen some beautiful crafts online and selected a few to try. In the end I ran out of time to try all I wanted but I managed to make some carrots (14) for the kids for Easter Sunday. It was a team effort really, I cut it all out and hubby did the gluing! All filled with little Easter eggs to decorate the table.  I made some rabbits for the adults but didn't seem to have got a picture! Plus with those, I cut them out before finding eggs to fill them with so it didn't quite work out! And my youngest daughter made this lovely panel to launch the Easter egg race! Céline
