Week-end sewing

Image
The Doll Quilt Swap is coming to its deadline and although I had an idea for my partner for a while, I didn't get to the point of starting until recently. I decided on a Circle of Geese block to be framed with more flying geese and this week-end I was chain paper-piecing my geese for the circle until I had my block completed. I raided my batik stash to find a selection of greens for the circle of geese and used a Klona cream from Backstitch for the background. I really like the softness of the cream for this block. I made my block using the template from piece by number . So the central block is finished, I have also made all my geese for the border, I just need to add the borders and get onto the quilting to finish it this week. I hope my partner will like it! And of course because I like working on more than one project at once, I did more paper piecing to try out a New York Beauty block that I am planning to use for my Sew Sew Modern 4 swap partner. I ordered a lovely ra...

Where is the sun???

Image
Mid-July, it is supposedly summer - nice and warm. Well not quite, today is grey (again), wet (again) and quite cold and windy outside (16 ⁰ C) again... So I made my own sun Last night I finished piecing my yellow Flying geese for the (May) Rainbow Challenge. I am a little behind with this BOM but I am slowly catching up. 2 more to do: purple for June and blue for July. I also completed block #4 Christmas presents for the Christmas Block-a-Thon on the Free Spirit blog . I am now 3 blocks behind, although I am half-way though the block published last Wednesday and I haven't started the blocks from last Friday or today. My BOM Rehab for this week-end. I also finished my June block for the Bee Weave It or Not! We are making some lovely Basket Weave blocks following Nydia's tutorial. June disappeared so quickly that I never got around to make the blocks I was due to send. But here they are finally and I will be sending them off tomorrow. 2 blocks for Nydia a warm bl...

Week-end sewing

Image
... was very limited with this stupid leak in the living room. Anyway, now that my Linus quilt is finished and handed over, I went back to some paper piecing yesterday, starting my Bee blocks for the Bee Weave it or not! and also catching up on my Circle of Geese BOM. I never had chance to make my May block - yellow circle and I still have the June one - purple circle to make. I finished the first quarter of my May block last night, diving in my scrap basket and my stash (I don't have many yellow scraps). Slowly getting there... Celine

Week-end report

Image
As usual, I didn't progress as much as I was planning to with my sewing, what a surprise! I guess it doesn't help that the kids have a busy social life now and then need Mum and Dad's taxi. I also realised on Saturday that I completely forgot about the Friday Night Sew-In, too bad! Anyway, I managed to make a whole Circle of Geese in grey (I struggled to find 12 different grey fabrics between my scrap box and my stash). I received the white background I used for my block this month from my secret pal in 2006! This is one of my BOM Rehab project as well as a Rainbow Scrap Challenge block. I started on my Halloween block, copying Diane's idea and making a witch but she's not finished yet so I'll show you later. I have finished the first round of the Modern Round Robin so I can now send the block off to the next person but because this is a mystery RR, you won't be able to see the block now, sorry! And finally this morning, I finished this hexie flowe...

Circle of geese - pink

Image
I have finished my Circle of Geese in pink for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge . I didn't have enough pink in my scrap box so I had to dive into my stash as well. The "pink bubbles" at the top is a fabric I have used in a number of quilts and also in Miss Strawberry Shortcake book bag. The strawberry on the left is from a "Strawberry Shortcake" fabric that my Mum has used to make a teddy bear for Miss Strawberry Shortcake. The little red and pink spots are from a fabric I used to make Miss Strawberry Shortcake outfit for her own special photo shoot last year. The little hands come from my stash and is so appropriate for Baby Girl. Yesterday I also managed to piece a crazy block in the hope that I will finish embellishing it by Saturday night for the CQ Journal 2012 . Celine

Stars are complete

Image
Finally yesterday I finished sewing the last stars I needed to do for the [3x6] Mini Bee Sampler quilt . I had make mistakes in the direction of the fabric so I had to unpick and redo, that's why it took me almost all week to finish it all. But they are now done so I can send them off next week. This one is for Lisa: This one is for Melissa: This one is for Karin and this one is an extra: Here are all the stars that I will be sending off together: And here is the star I received from Anna a while back. I also got started on my Circle of Geese in pink for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge last night, I've only made one quarter so far but I don't have that many pink in my scrap basket so I'll have to raid my stash to be able to get 12 different pinks. I can't believe March is nearly over already and the Easter school break will start very soon. Celine

Circle of Geese - green

Image
Before we went away, I managed to finish off my second Rainbow Scrap Challenge Circe of Geese block. This month was green. I used the same paper-piecing pattern from Piece by Number as last month. While working on this project and diving into my green scrap baskets, I found a number of bright green pieces that I have used in baby quilts (for mine or friends'). It was so nice to find a piece and think who I used the fabric for in the first place. When I found the "John Deere" fabric I was about to dismiss it for this project thinking it wouldn't go with the rest but I then had after thoughts and decided to keep it in. I used the "John Deere" fabric years ago when I started patchwork to make a glasses case as a present for my dear Dad. We gave him the case to take when he was put to rest so I decided to have that particular piece of fabric in my rainbow quilt as it would be a piece of the rainbow if my life. Celine

Rainbow Scrap Challenge - red Circle of Geese

Image
Yesterday evening was Friday Night Sew-In and I didn't sign up for it as I wasn't sure I'd found some time to do anything at all. But in the end between a feed and a few cuddles to Baby Girl, I managed to find a little time to finish off my Rainbow Scrap Challenge block that I started earlier this week. This month was red so I dived into my red and white (background) scrap baskets to make this pretty Circle of Geese. I had admired those blocks for a while and thought it would be a good one for a rainbow quilt. And it doesn't use that much of the focus colour but quite a bit of background and my white scrap basket is overflowing so that should help to get it down. I used a paper-piecing pattern from Piece by Number that was very easy to follow. This week I also prepared a block for my CQ Journal 2012 . I was going to go for a monochromatic block (as I usually do) in red to keep with the colour of the month. But when I selected my fabric for the centre of my block (a...

Playing with geese

Image
I have finally finished work last week until Baby #3 decides to arrive. I thought I'd have lots of time to sew but I also want to do plenty in the house that I don't usually have time to do so I have only really started playing with fabric yesterday. I had bought the Mah-Jong fabric  a while ago because I really liked it but I hadn't seem to be able to match it so far. I have been doing big Flying Geese blocks using the no-waste method. It is such a great way of doing geese without fiddling with triangles! I have made an "all-geese" block and a star. I really like the way they came out! Well I think the dark blue fabric worked well with it in the end, what do you think? It is the same fabric in the 2 pictures below but it doesn't really look like the same for some reason. Celine
