Dear Jane - one more block

Image
Last week, while I was staying with my Mum, I managed to finish one more Dear Jane block: L3 Reflections Abound. This one is now nicely sewn to its neighbouring blocks L2 and L4 I also added the sashing to A10 and now have to attach it to A9 and A11. This takes my grand total to: 115, 7, 0, 2466. I was hoping to do more but there is always so much going on when we go home! Celine

Flowers

Finally we are back home after much travelling. We had a great time, finishing the holidays with a surprise trip to Disneyland Paris that the kids thoroughly enjoyed. I feel really tired after all the travelling and I am trying to have the kids back into a routine, school starts back tomorrow... but Baby Daughter seems to have other ideas and kept me up from 1 to 6 last night. Hopefully this was a one-off and we'll be back into more reasonable patterns... One can only hope I guess. Anyway with all the time I have spent in the car recently, it was perfect opportunity for hand sewing. I have made these two flowers for Christine on the Inchy Hexie Swap . She wanted red petals and beige centre. I hope they fit in her garden. While away I also received these lovely flowers from Christine for the February Inchy Hexie Swap and from Ros for the March Inchy Hexie Swap . My garden is growing very nicely indeed! More very soon! Life is Beautiful

Image
A beautiful egg hunt, a beautiful Easter and lots of time in the car over the last couple of days so I have managed to stitch one block of my Life is Beautiful quilt-to-be. "Don't expect a miracle, be the miracle" I have now 8 stitcheries out of 32, slowly this is progressing. This is also part of my BOM Rehab programme. Celine

Framed hexie

I was running late last month with the Framed hexie swap but I finally managed to send my Birdie to Suzzie earlier this month: Celine

Bee Europa 2011

Image
Amelie had asked us to make some spider web blocks with some selvage strips and a light grey fabric. I had enough fabric to make 8 triangles making a whole block: And finally this last month of the Bee is my turn. I've asked my fellow bee members to make me blocks to help me complete a Maisy quilt for Miss Strawberry Shortcake. I have sent them all an image of Maisy and some scraps to make a square block with the image and an Irish Chain block. I want to make a quilt inspired by the Ghastlie quilt that Kim made last year. I can't wait to get the blocks back and make the counting quilt. Celine

Farmer's Wife - second thoughts

Image
I haven't made any Farmer's Wife blocks for a long time because I am having second thoughts about my blocks. After having made a few blocks, I really feel that I should use a plain background so the block designs would be easier to "read". I like the scrappy look but I still feel it would be nicer if I used a plain fabric in each of my blocks. So I went back to the book to find how much background fabric I was needed but couldn't find any yardage anywhere, most probably because the quilt has not been made with just one background fabric. I had already bought my sashing and cornerstone fabric last summer. The sashing fabric is brown. So I decided I would order 4 different fabrics for the background, all Moda Bella solid: chocolate, hay, fig tree and parchment. Now I need to start over my blocks since I will be doing them differently. Celine

One cushion

Image
Yesterday evening, I finished this lovely cushion that I had started I think in January 2010. One UFO off my list and my one and only OPAM for March. I have been meaning to do it all month and only picked it up this afternoon. Nothing better than a deadline to get things done! When I did put away this cushion before it became a UFO, I had done the middle and the first round of logs (red ones) and I had all the fabric cut out. When I picked it up the pieces again today, I couldn't remember how to sew the logs on with the "stitch and fliip" method I had used about 2 years ago but on the fourth try I finally got it right! I love the fabrics I have used for the cushion but I can't say I really like the method to make it, although I like how the cushion has turned out once finish. The pre-quilted pieces are sewn together in a way that leaves no raw edge on the top or back so it is neat and finished once it's pieced. The cushio looks lovely now that it is finished o...
