July goals

Image
School holidays is on so I am hoping this means more free time for me since there is no(t as much) taxiing of the kids required and they might even be away with my mum for a little while! But then again, if the weather is really nice maybe I won't be very motivated to sit in the sewing room in the evenings...  Qui lting 1 .  Impromptu quilt - this one is back from quilting and only need trimming and binding, maybe I can do the trimming this month and maybe even start putting the border on, we have had some chillier evenings lately... 2. Harry Potter - this one has not progressed since March. Not sure when I'll pick it up again.  3.    Farmer's Wife quilt - I am really hoping to progress this one and finish it this year to gift it to my mum. Dressmaking 1 .  Aquarius dress - this one was "finished" for my daughter's Communion in June but needs some fixing! 2. Night dress 3. Kids summer PJs -  these will be my  One monthly goal 4. Linen Skirt...

June in review

Image
June has for sure been a busy month with our youngest daughter Communion a few week-ends ago. I had set to make myself a dress, which I managed - just! I haven't blogged about the dress because although it was finished and worn on the day, there were a few things that needed fixing, and that I have completely fixed yet. I unpicked the hem this week as I didn't quite like how it looked... I don't want to put it away before it is all fixed otherwise I'll never do it and never wear it again. Anyway here is a first sight at my Aquarius dress. Before the Communion we made a lot of favours boxes, I am saying we because it was a real team effort! I was managing the Cricut phase (printing and cutting), hubby was doing the folding and assembling before passing it back to me for the filling of boxes and adding the ribbon to close them. We made over 30 in a few evenings but I thought they looked good in the end! I also made some teachers' presents (quite last minute!) but ma...

Bags

It seems that somehow the end of the school year has crept on me even more than usual... I suddenly realised last Sunday that the kids were about to start their last week, i.e. that teachers' presents were needed to be completed by the end of the week but I hadn't even made a start... I needed 4 this year and one was needed by Wednesday morning not Friday + Wednesday evening was the annual fete de la musique (music festival for the summer solstice) which meant that that was one last evening to work on the presents. I settled on the Zero Waste Wave bag pattern by bag.uettes that I had used extensively 2 years ago before our big move. I digged into my faux leather stash and found 2 sets of 2 fabrics that would work for the outside. The bag is not lined in the original pattern but my faux leather back is not necessarily pretty so I opted to line them. With the pieces all cut, first step was to make the handles, I opted for the spaghettis ones this time, which ends up being quit...

Maybe it is too late or maybe not, but hopefully I'll have a little more energy to finish a few things this month.... May Furtle

Well we had lots of bank holidays that's for sure, which makes for longer weekend and shorter weeks. That's really nice in a way but it also means that the work needs to be crammed into much less time! We've also been out and about quite a bit this month so in the end there's been very little time in the sewing room... One boring thing I finally did was to shorten my daughter's curtains (overdue by nearly a year!!) I also made myself a new dress the Pléiades 2. And I spent quite some time with my Cricut to make some favour boxes for my daughter's communion coming up in June... Linking to May Furtle Céline

Pleiades dress

With Spring finally back and a few Holy Communion to attend, I thought I needed a new dress. I had wanted to try some French Poetry patterns for a while and settled on the Pléiades 2 Dress for my first try. Before I left the UK, I had ordered a stash of Lady McElroy fabric from Sherwoods Fabrics that I hadn't yet put to good use. I picked the New York City - Night print, q lovely cotton poplin that has a beautiful drape. The construction of the dress is not very difficult and the explanations are rather clear but for some reasons or another, I ended up unpicking about every single seam...  I lengthen the bodice by 2 cm and the skirt by 10 cm as I wanted longer but didn't want to add frill. I also added pockets, as it says on the label, because it's always a bonus to have pockets!  Now it's finished, I really love it. I've already worn it twice this month and can see it coming out quite often.  And with that, I have a finish for May, which was also my   ...

Impromptu quilt

Image
My Impromptu quilt is finally quilted! It has taken me so long to pack it up and send it to Kim at l'Atelier du Long Arm, not sure why! Anyway, I sent it very late March and Kim managed to quilt it in April, despite originally thinking she won't get to it until the summer. And I received it back earlier this month. This quilt is huge (90'' square) that's why I wanted to have it quilted professionally.  Kim used a beautiful flowery feather motif on my top. The quilt has a lot of negative space so it needed quite a lot of quilting.  I love the outcome, now it needs trimming and binding which hopefully won't take forever! It's already taken 10 years to get to this point.  Linking to  D esign Wall Monday ,  Midweek Makers ,  Wednesday Wait Loss ,  Happy Needle and Threa d ,  Put your foot down ,  Brag about your Beauties ,   Off the wall Friday ,  Can I get a Whoop Whoop ,  Peacock Party ,  Patchwork and Quilt ...
