It is snowing...
Well not really where I am. It is pouring down with rain and it is very windy too. But it has been snowing in my sewing room!
If you have arrived from the Holiday Lane Pillow blog hop, welcome! Today is day my stop on the hop. I first saw Jill's design last year and saved it on my computer to make it one day! So when Madam Samm announced the blog hop run by Pauline, I thought this was the perfect occasion and signed up for it. Thanks to you for the motivation and the encouragement to get going!
The pattern that Jill has created is quite big for a pillow so I decided to deviate from the instructions and to make a wall hanging rather than a pillow. As we are getting ready to go skiing in the Alps later on in the winter, I picked a shabby chic red and cream colour scheme for my panels. I raided my stash to find some lovely red and cream prints to make the houses.
And I used a beige coarse linen fabric for the background instead of the black Jill had used in her design.
The snow on the roofs and chimneys is made from wadding (not a great idea after all because it didn't stick to the background so well).
A thin red strip frame the panel and a border of 2.5' squares using the same fabrics as the houses finishes the wall hanging.
I finished quilting my panel tonight and hand sewn the binding just before writing up my post.
A few country Christmas buttons was just what was missing to finish the mini quilt off, I think!
Last minute finishing but I am glad that my panel is ready to be hanged on the wall and brighten up the house! It will surely get us into holiday mood! When I asked the kids what they thought of it, they asked it it was a postcard of the place we go skiing, objective reached!
And of course, that's one more OPAM this month!
Well I hope you have enjoyed your visit to my wintry village. Now hop over to these blogs for more snowy villages:
