Christmas Block-a-thon

Image
Although it is warm-ish around here, it is so grey that it certainly feels like Christmas is coming soon. WHERE is the summer? Anyway, a good way of keeping busy INDOORS with all the rain, is to join the just started Christmas Block-a-Thon organised by Free Spirit and Rowan . The first block has been released last Monday and the second block is out today. Pop over to Free Spirit blog for the instructions on how to make the blocks. I have just completed the first block: Tinsel I am using a Fat Quarter bundles I bought last year. It is Let it Snow by RJR fabric and the background is ... Snow by Kona Solids of course. If you want a nice Christmas project for the (non-existent) summer, join the fun now! Celine

Bee blocks

I just finished two rounds of the Modern Mystery Round Robin. I received 2 blocks in June, one was ahead of the game but I worked on both this week to send them off for their next border. The first block I worked on had a patriotic theme. Now I am not American and I don't much patriotic fabric in my stash so I decided to "create" my own. I added a border of red and white stripes. And today is most probably the best day of the year to post about my stripe border? The second block I received had a more wonky feel to it. So I decided to add only 2 borders of irregular piano keys in the colours of the centre. I can only post partial pictures as the Round Robin is a Mystery, I don't want to spoil the surprise... It will all be revealed in October. I am also working on Bee Weave It or Not blocks this week as I haven't finished my June ones yet. Here is a peak at the first quarter I have completed. I am linking this to WIP Wednesday. And this week I received ...

If it can be dreamt then it can be done

We travelled back home at the week-end, so there were quite a few hours in the car once again. And I really like stitching when I am in the car, it is easy and doesn't require much space/material. I finished my June block for my Life is Beautiful quilt which I started during our holidays:  "If it can be dreamt then it can be done", I should think about this phrase more often... Celine

June hexies

I don't know where June disappeared really ... I have been caught out and I am behind on some of the swaps I am in now, better catch up quickly.... Last week, I finished my 2 hexie flowers for Lara on the Inchy Hexie Swap, she asked for red and purple so I made her a red one with a "London" by Makower fabric for the center. June was the month of the Jubilee celebrations here in England so I *had* to have a crown! Well I hope my flowers fit in Lara's garden. And I also made this framed hexie for Kim which I was supposed to send her in May. I am really behind with this swap. I thought that a girl can never have too many handbags, I hope she likes this one. Celine

Week-end sewing

... was very limited with this stupid leak in the living room. Anyway, now that my Linus quilt is finished and handed over, I went back to some paper piecing yesterday, starting my Bee blocks for the Bee Weave it or not! and also catching up on my Circle of Geese BOM. I never had chance to make my May block - yellow circle and I still have the June one - purple circle to make. I finished the first quarter of my May block last night, diving in my scrap basket and my stash (I don't have many yellow scraps). Slowly getting there... Celine

It has been a very wet day, both inside and outside. I got up with baby Girl this morning to find that water was dripping from the ceiling in the living room on the sofa and on the floor. Charming! A pipe near the hot water cylinder had a leak and the water had accumulated between the floor board before dripping down. We had a visit from a plumber as part as a home emergency cover but all they do then is stop the leak, they don't repair it so no heating and no hot water for us until it's fixed, great with 3 kids. Thankfully we have an immersion heater for the hot water. And because it is so horrible and wet outside, the kids couldn't play in the garden much and we couldn't get the sofa to dry either. Grrr... Anyway back to the topic of my post. Earlier this year, my quilting group proposed a challenge to all who wanted to play. We were each given 2 FQs to make a baby quilt for the annual fete in June: one spotty fabric (white on turquoise) and one of the Alphabet sou...
