Blogger's Quilt Festival - Modern quilt

Image
The  Blogger's Quilt Festival  is on again and my second entry is another quilt I gifted this summer. Another 40th birthday quilt! I picked the  Stems and Stones pattern  from  Kelly Young  for her and I am planning to use Kaffe Fassett fabric for it.  Starting by making snowballs (in May!) and then the connectors sections At that point, I had to lay it all out on the floor to create the top as it was the easiest way to ensure the correct pieces were in the right place And then, I added all the background pieces and started assembling by rows so as not to lose the plot!  And this the finished top ready for quilting I used a Flower Power pattern from   The Inbox Jaunt   for an all-over quilting and I really like the effect it gives to the quilt. lots of great texture. I used quite a bright variegated thread King Tut by Superior Threads and it worked well with the multi-colour fabric....

Blogger's Quilt Festival - Scrappy quilt

Image
The Blogger's Quilt Festival is on again and there are quite a few categories to choose for. I have picked one of the latest quilt I have finished, the one I gifted to my friend over the summer. My chopstick quilt was made entirely of my stash, using lots of prints to make it scrappy and bright and used a pattern by Sewing Party that I found in Simply Modern. I selected a number of fabric to get the chop sticks from and used a lovely background fabric that I had kept in my stash too. I cut strips from the fabric and putt them together before chopping them off   to get the quilt centre  2 borders were added to the centre I quilted only the triangles of background and the borders too. My finished Chop Stick quilt Quilt stats: Started 25 June, finished 22 July Fabric all from my stash Quilted with King Tut 937 in the bobbin and 931 for the border, 902 for the inner border and 961 for the main quilt Lap size quilt Linking to Blogger's Quilt...

Blogger's quilt festival - Carte postale du Treport

Image
The blogger's quilt festival has launched on Friday and also I had decided when I finished my oldest UFO back in May that I would enter it for the festival, I haven't been able to write my post up until now. If you are new visiting my blog, warm welcome and I hope you enjoy your visit today. The quilt I have picked is as I mentioned before my oldest UFO. I started it in 2004 or 2005 for my cousin's 20th birthday. Inspiration: I saw this quilt in Magic Patch that featured a lighthouse and knowing this was something she really likes and collected, I thought that would be perfect for her. The lighthouse below, in Le Treport has a significant meaning as this where our great-grand-parents lived and our grand-mum used to go very often, so the lighthouse of the quilt had to match this one to be more personnel to both of us! The making of a UFO As I mentioned before I started working on this quilt in 2004/2005 but didn't go that far before she actually turned ...

Blogger's Quilt Festival

Image
I love the Blogger's Quilt Festival that Amy organises as there is always such a diversity of stunning quilt that I would otherwise never discover. I like the opportunity for "anonymous quilters" like me to exhibit one or more quilt and drive traffic to my little blog for a few days! It is always difficult to choose ONE quilt for the festival but this year I have been in so many swaps that I have picked one of the mini quilt I have made not that long ago. I picked the mini I made before Christmas for the IG mini swap. I picked a pattern from Diane called Celestial Star which is all paper-pieced and I picked a colour scheme which is not a common one for me, so this was quite challenging! And with 12 of these, you get a lovely star floatting inside a ring, magical! a close up of the echo-quilting and a blue binding to frame it I think my partner liked her quilt. I must say I would have gladly kept it by the time it was finished, which...

Bloggers' Quilt Festival

Image
It is this time of year again, the amazing Bloggers's Quilt Festival  that  Amy  organises so brilliantly. So many beauties to discover, so many lovely blogs to get lost into! With 11 categories to enter quilts under, there should be a fantastic range of quilts to admire! After much thoughts, I have decided to enter my Flower Power quilt in the  Original Design Category . This time I have chosen to feature the quilt I finished for my grand-mum over the summer. I had a collection of blocks (20) that I received from a BOM exchange in 2010-2011 and that had sat there since. My Grand-Mum turned 85 earlier this year and lost her life-long companion, my Grand-Dad, earlier in the year after over 65 years of marriage. My Grand-Mum was a keen gardner and an outdoor lady as she worked on the farm all her life with my Grand-Dad. I thought those flowery blocks would brighten her days a little bit. With the 20 blocks I had, I decided a lap quilt would be a good si...

Blogger's Quilt Festival - Home Machine Quilted Quilt

Image
Spring has finally arrived in my corner of the world, just in time to coincide with the Spring Blogger's Quilt Festival that Amy organises brilliantly. So many beauties to discover, so many lovely blogs to get lost into! With 11 categories to enter quilts under, there should be a fantastic range of quilts to admire! After much thoughts, I have decided to enter my Cats Quilt in the Home Machine Quilted Category . I had so much problems quilting this big top (it finishes at 72' square) because I hadn't fitted the wrong free-motion foot on my machine initially (you can read more about it here if you are interested) that it seems to be a natural choice! I made this quilt for my daughter's bed but it was a long quilt in the making. It started in February 2013 when I asked my fellow bees from Bee Europa to make blocks for me using the London Cats/Paris Cats fabrics from Benartex that I sent them. They sent me the blocks back but I still needed more to ...
