Modern City Scape

Image
Another block for the sew along made quite quickly. This is block 3. I also assembled blocks 1 & 2. But before I could do that, I had to fix the first block. I had sewn the bottom part upside down.... 🙃 all fixed now. Linking to  Put your foot down, Brag about your Beauties, Off the wall Friday, Can I get a Whoop Whoop, Patchwork and Quilt. Céline

Birthday block and cutting fabric

Image
I am happy to report that I am still on track with the birthday blocks. I didn't follow the exact instructions for the cutting which asks for squares, instead I kept strips where possible  Only I sub cut one too small when slicing them so had to redo one part in the end But the block came together quite quickly in the end. I also spent some time at the week-end cutting the background fabric and more of the main fabric for the  Mystery quilt scrap galore . I still have about 15 pieces to cut, nearly there! And finally I printed all 50+ pages of the paper pattern for the Modern City Scape quilt along .  Linking to  Patchwork and Quilt ,  D esign  Wall Monday ,  Midweek Makers ,  Wednesday Wait Loss , Céline

On the train...

Image
Not much sewing time again the last 2-3 weeks and this has mainly be due to lack of time/too much work... I had completed the train block but wasn't happy with it so I unpicked it and remade it this week.  With this block finished, I can complete the third row of the top. I also started on the top row "Harry Potter" and had spent quite some time 2 week-ends ago cutting the pieces with little fabric to spare... only to realise that I had only cut out "Harry"... This block is actually half of the top row so counts for two really!  I don't have enough of the blue or the gold left for the other half so I am going to have to write Potter in different fabrics!  Progress on this UFO is much slower than I was expecting but I am really trying to keep at it. I guess I average about "one" block a week at the moment and I don't think I'll manage to get faster any time soon. Last week I only managed to sew one time, this week has been better with 4 da...

Hogwarts

Image
Very slowly I am making progress on my Harry Potter UFO. I finished Hogwarts crest at the week-end, just in time for the Quidditch tournament that was held in our town! One more block for the top but quite a few still to go! Hopefully soon as I am happy to be able to report that I have managed 5 days of sewing this last week, a great improvement after I didn't manage more than one day a week for the whole of February. Super Mario

Image
Nearly 10 years later, I have a quilt top.... I was planning on making 15 blocks originally but after I got them all out to check how many more I needed, I realised that 12 blocks would already make a decent size quilt. After playing with the blocks to pick the sashing, I decided to add a black strip to 2 sides of the blocks.   That's when I realised that I made a mistake in the question mark block that wasn't square (17x18) so I unpicked and rectified it. All the blocks are bordered by a 3'' grey strip. Now the top is pieced, ready to be quilted, let's hope that won't take another 10 years.... Boho Heart HST

Image
Week 2 of the Boho Heart quilt-along (early February) was all about HST. The blocks were not necessarily difficult but I didn't get to them until the last week of Febraury and I am still sadly 2 blocks short... Here are the ones I have made so far.  Windblown 16-patch HST 9-patch HST Pinwheel Courthouse Shoo Fly And 3 simple HST And while working on these pink blocks, I also made 2 pink blocks for my 365 Challenge quilt 13 May and 12 June All of these blocks were from February. I am very much behind with this quilt-along now, I doubt I will catch up... Linking to  Midweek Makers ,  Wednesday Wait Loss ,  Needle and Thread Thursday Celine

Paper piecing

Image
This block seems to have taken forever... admittedly there were lots of pieces but the Tardis block is finished! My third block for the Fandom in stitch quilt along. I also noticed that on the D-0 block there was one seam where the fabric was too short so I had a hole in the seam. I unpicked the piece that was too short, not sure that was the best idea actually... I have managed to slot a piece back in the big hole by sewing the straight seam but all the other seams look quite difficult to sew back on the machine so I will probably sew it back by hand.  And I also made the 2 Tolkien blocks I had selected, those were much easier and quicker because they had far less pieces . The eye of Auron and the Arkenstone That's it for those blocks for now. I haven't yet find any other that have taken my fancy but there will be more for sure! Boho Heart

Image
Another new project that had caught my eye! The Boho Heart Sew Along started earlier this month and I am already behind. Never mind, I have at least started, first by spending a few evenings cutting stripes, both for this pattern but also for my Gipsy Wife quilt that has been long abandoned as well. I have picked low volume, neutral light tones for both quilts. I still don't have enough stripes but the piles are slowly growing. And I have finally finished all the blocks from week 1 - one full week late.... This week, we made 2 checkerboard blocks - a larger one And a smaller one 2 x 9-patch blocks 5 x 4-patch blocks and 2 Gardenvale blocks And while making those blocks I also made 4 more blocks for 365-challenge quilt: 7 July 8 July 9 July 10 September And with that I have made 15 blocks in February. UFO - 1

Image
Another UFO bites the dust! I had a bag of leftover blocks (8 of them finishing at 6") from over 10 years ago (I originally made the blocks during a Mystery Night in 2007...)  and a multitude of HST (not yet trimmed!)  that I had stashed away probably too make a cushion cover similar to the one I made 9 years ago. You can read all the details here I found the bag again a week or so ago and decided that I worked probably never do anything with those so it was time to let them go. Well they're now in their way to someone else.  Another UFO less in my stash, and again that's one that didn't even appear on any list... third one to go this year, not bad for me, who until a few months ago wouldn't even consider getting rid of UFO.  Celine
