And another sew-along!

Image
I hadn't joined a sew-along for such a long time and suddenly there are so many I want to take part in. The latest one I have found on Instagram is the #kingfisherstitchalong organised by Tales of Cloth and Stiched in Color . And although I really don't need another EPP project, I thought it would actually be the perfect project to use up the hexie flowers I collected along the year of the Inchy Hexie Swap . So for now, I have gathered all my flowers and will need to pick the ones I want to include in this Kingfisher top soon. Of course, my initial plan was to sew a lovely flower garden with a grey path between the flowers and I have at least 50 shades of grey hexies too! But after 8 years of starting playing with hexies, this is as far as I got.... Not likely to happen soon really. Hopefully that will be one UFO less soon! Linking to Let's Bee Social . Celine

A few blocks

Image
Not many of those but just a few! I made one filler block for the Gipsy WIfe quilt before we went and last night I finally managed to turn on my machine again (first time since we came back). I had planned/hoped for some sewing time every night but there was just too much work to catch up with. Anyway, I made this week's block Hope from Hartford and also a square in a square filler block And while we were on our cruise, I also made my overdue hexie flowers. That was my 72th sets, which means that I have swapped for 6 years! 5 more blocks so far for August, maybe I'll have time for a few more... who know! Celine

Flowers and one more block

Image
For some reasons I have been completely falling off the wagon for the Inchy Hexie Swap and hadn't yet finished my April flowers. So I took them with me last time I was waiting for the kids at a club, only to realise that I had moved stuff for one pouch to another and I didn't have any thread with me... How is that even possible? Anyway, we had a really nice day on Saturday so I sat in the garden and hand sew for most of the afternoon. It was just so nice (and something I so rarely do) and I completed my April flowers and also started the May ones that I finished last night while watching TV. I also managed the HST block for this week Long Time Gone Assignment. All together, that's another 5 blocks for May, taking my total to 24 blocks this month. Just a few more blocks

Image
I have been playing with more scraps to make blocks for the Long Time Gone quilt along and I have managed to finish a few more blocks, still trying to stay ahead of the game as the pace will pick up and it will be hard to keep up! I finished the  Square in a Square Star   block 2 Crosses of the UK (4 more are needed!) and 4 pineapple blocks. There are 16 of these in the quilt and I just coudn't envisage doing them all within a week. And I also made my 2 flowers for the Inchy Hexie Swap With those 9 blocks, I now have 11 blocks this month for 350-blocks challenge. Linking to Building Blocks Tuesday . Celine

A new project....

Oh I know I shouldn't....even more so at this time of year... but I just couldn't resist the cuteness and I love the idea behind the Advent Sew Along. Now I have only started yesterday so of course I am already 5 blocks behind... but who knows I might eventually catch up. Really what's not to love in this so cute hexie log cabin, 2 of my favorite patterns These are - oh so small - despite the 22 pieces of fabric required for one block. The logs are 3/8' finished! Great scrap buster, even for tiny scraps. And this is my first completed block for this month! If you would like to play along too, it's not to late, go over lovely Croix Patch blog to find the information and the pattern. Last few blocks

Image
And a few more blocks before the month comes to an end. This week has been mainly about hand sewing, because my machine is away from me. I squeezed one more Wanta Fanta block before the week-end, so I now need 5 more to finish my quilt top. I also made my October hexie flowers for Carrie. I think it's the first time I am making batik flowers in 5 years + of swapping. And one Lucy Boston block, I have a few more to make to catch up now... My total block for October is now 38! Blocks time - guest blogger for Building Blocks Tuesday

Image
Welcome back, today, I have once again the honor to be guest blogger for Jen at  Quilter in the Closet   for her Building Blocks Tuesday.  Welcome if you are new here and coming from Jen's blog. Jen started the linky party while I was in a swap with her, a while ago and I have been trying to link up with her as often as possible.  I love the idea of a block linky party because I am not industrious and able to produce a quilt every other week! And also this year I have been particularly busy making blocks with the quilt along etc I have joined Let me show you the blocks I made recently and then why not linking yours in the linky party below? Well contrary to the last few months, I have hardly made any blocks this week because I have been busy working on other projects, trying to finish a quilt and teacjers' presents! Yes school is not out yet here, one last week before the break! But I have had some time for hand stitching so I can show you my last Sashiko bl...

Working on a quilt top and more blocks

Image
So my April challenge for the Lazy Bums is to make a quilt top for my son with blocks I received a few years ago (about 2013...) from various swaps and bees (to be honest this has been on my to-do list for a while actually) and I had even devised a plan using sashing around each blocks and made a start last year but didn't go very far. So I got my pile of blocks out at the week-end and of course I had been clever enough not to keep my scribbles that were my plan with the blocks and fabric so I have now idea where it has disappeared! And I decided that the best thing to do was to lay out the blocks and start again. I had 25 blocks altogether that I collected but decided that it wouldn't be enough, ideally I needed 30. I found another 3 that I had made for other purposes but that hadn't been used yet and were the right colour scheme but slightly smaller, a tiny border and I could throw them into the mix and was left with 2 holes to fill! Easy to add 2 blocks and ...

An old UFO

Image
A long time ago (in 2010), I ordered a Moda Scrap Bag and received a roll of strips from the Migration collection by Holly Taylor, probably long before the Jelly Rolls were popular with no much idea what to do with them. About the same time , I found an hexagon quilt-along organised by Julie of Jaybird Quilts. So I started sewing strips in pair, before cutting them in triangles and playing around with the layout as shown in her blocks. I finally finished the blocks and assembled the blocks into a top.... well in August 2013  because of a blog hop for hexagons. And at the time, I thought I would be able to quilt and finish it by the following month.... well no quite! And this flimsy laid around for nearly 2 years before it finally made it to the quilting frame last June, hurrah! And then it was just a matter of squaring hexagoning it off to add the binding on, which finally happened in January! Quilted with Aurifil 4650. This is the first o...
