Winter coat

Image
I have been wearing my new winter coat for a while now but hadn't posted yet as it is still missing its hood... Years ago, I made a neoprene coat from The Makers' Atelier. I loved it and wore it a lot, so it was time for a new one. I wondered whether to make another one using the same pattern again but I thought I'd like a hood this time. I settled on the Silvia coatigan by Schnittchen Patterns  as I really liked the shape of it. I had a beige neoprene in my stash with a lovely texture that almost looked like a woollen fabric that I thought would work for it and also found a piece of silk that my friend gifted me.  I cut all the pieces in September and made the coat then (minus the hood). I started wearing it when I went to a conference end of September.  I thought I'd made the hood as soon as I'd get back from the conference and although I attempted to I didn't manage to finish it and it is still sitting on my sewing table....  I didn't have much of the s...

Snowflake quilt

Image
Finally,  I have finished a quilt! There wasn't much left really, just about half of the border that needed to be sewn by hand before we moved. And then we moved... I had packed the quilt into a suitcase rather than a box to retrieve it quicker. But I hadn't packed hand sewing needles or any energy/ motivation... And finally last week, I did the last few stitches on the binding to have a finished quilt! Just one year after I started it with the sew along. The top was pieced last autumn. I had planned to quilt it in December but my machine broke down so that didn't happen... It was finally quilted in April this year. The binding was on sometimes on Spring. Quilt stats Fabric from my stash Backing fabric bought for the quilt Quilted with King Tut #928 Started Sep 2020, finished Oct 2021 This is one OPAM for October and also my  One monthly goal . Last few bags

Image
Only 4 more... I kind of ran out of steam really but wanted to make 4 more to gift to some of the lovely people my children had interacted with in various clubs over the years.  So with that, here are my last 4 bags.  2 for the dance teachers 2 for the Scouts leaders (one with upside down birdies...) And 4 additional finish for July and off my Q3 FAL list.  Linking to Needle and Thread Thursday ,  Brag about your Beauties ,   Off the wall Friday ,  Peacock Party ,    Whoop Whoop  Friday ,   Patchwork and Quilts Celine

Bags

And that will be 3 more, including 2 rather last minute. I needed one for Brown Owl, to be gifted with the open wide pouches so I finished that one with about one hour to spare. And I also needed one for school last Friday as the presents have to be quarantined before being handed to the teachers this week. So that was another one to finish off. This one was with 2 colours as I messed up the cutting of the wave! And some more OPAM for July. Ideally I need to make 4 more bags but I must admit I seem to have run out of steam a little recently. Fingers crossed I will find the time for the last few ones! Linking to  Brag about your Beauties ,   Off the wall Friday ,  Peacock Party ,    Whoop Whoop  Friday ,   Patchwork and Quilts Celine

Open wide pouches

Image
It has been long time since I made an open wide pouch (pattern by Noodlehead) so I made 4! More end of year gifts, this time for the Brownies leaders for my youngest daughter.  I used faux leather for the outside a nd cotton for the inside, one with the sports print and the other 3 with an IKEA print that I rediscovered when I emptied one of my cupboard! For the zips I had to raid my stash, they are not colour matching but I think they are complimentary 4 more OPAMs and off my Q3 FAL list.  Linking  to  Brag about your Beauties ,   Off the wall Friday ,  Peacock Party ,    Whoop Whoop  Friday ,   Patchwork and Quilts Celine

Pencil cases

Image
More end of year teachers' presents on my list but I took a break from the bags to make some pencil cases. I can't really make bags for men I think.  I started with 10'' squares for those pencil cases and added a 1'' square of faux leather on either side of the zip. First step is to sew the zip to the outside and lining so it is "sandwiched" between the 2 layers. Next I turned the tube inside out with the right side out and top-stitched alongside the zip to avoid the lining sticking out. With faux leather I found it was more manageable to not try to sew the full length but just inside the zip. Still have to be very careful to pull the lining fabric all the way along so it doesn't get caught.... Next the tube is turned the other way to have the lining on the outside and the short sides are sewn together, making sure that the zip line with the mid point of the pouch  Once both short sides are sewn, the pouch is quite flat. For a neater finish, I co...

More bags

Image
I have taken some time to sew this week-end and although I had planned to do a lot more than I have, I have managed to make 6 more Zero-Waste Wave Bags.  My first series was with this gorgeous raspberry faux leather.  It was all going so well until I realised I forgot to sew one strap.... Thankfully after a little bit of unpicking, I could fix it and have 2 more bags One for my daughter's form teacher and one for one music teacher Next series was the lavender ones One for the French teacher and one for one music teacher And finally the green series Both for music teachers I now have 8 bags in total, ideally I need a few more... I'll try my best to have them done in time but I don't think I will manage one for absolutely everyone.... 6 OPAM for July already and 6 ticks of my Q2 FAL list. Modern HST

Finally, a finish, just before the end of the month! I am so happy that this UFO is no more. It is now a finished quilt that I will be able to gift to a good friend before I leave. I just finished sewing the binding tonight, didn't have that much left to do really. And here it is, all done, finished, completed, ready to be gifted. Not sure why I took 5 years to get to this point but I am glad it is no longer a pile of blocks in a box. I used this lovely floral from my stash for the backing, it is pretty I think. And of course I quilted a few (secret) messages.  This was my OMG for June and I am happy to report that it is done. One more OPAM and of course one off my FAL (which has been carried through for so many quarters!).
