A year of UFO busting

Image
If you read me regularly, you'll know that the big event that has marked this year for me has been put move from the UK back to France after 21 years. A major change that has required some planning and organising made quite difficult by the pandemic. And of course, moving after so long and after 16 years in the same house has required some serious decluttering in all areas, including sewing and crafting supplies. And of course while going trig my stash and boxes, I have unearthed a (large) number of UFOs in various degrees of completion. I had never really considered letting go of my UFOs until probably about last year. First I never thought anyone would be interested in some partly done projects from someone else. Well, I was wrong! So I took a good look at these projects that I hadn't touched for years before deciding if they realistically had any hope to be finished one day, and as a result were worth packing and moving with us. I posted on most of those throughout the yea...

Double wedding ring

Image
Not long after I first started quilting, I decided I would make a Double Wedding Ring quilt for my parents' 30th wedding anniversary.  I bought John Flynn's book to use his method where you cut strips of fabric that you assemble. You then slice the pieces and you sew back to make an arch. It is quite difficult to explain but a lot easier and quicker than cutting some shaped pieces. Before starting on "the" quilt, I decided I should practice so I picked some Christmas fabric to make some blocks.  Of course, once I was confident with the method, the Christmas pieces got parked away for later and I decided to get started on the real one. Well, those pieces have been stashed away for all that time (nearly 20 years) and I never did anything with them, I doubt I will ever do. So last week-end I decided it was time to let them go to someone else, who will hopefully make something of them. I had previously posted the complete story behind my double wedding ring for my pare...

Blogger's Quilt Festival - Spring 2010

Image
First of all, welcome to my blog if you are new and welcome back if you've visited before. I discovered lots of lovely blogs through the first Quilt Festival that Amy organised last year and that made me decide to start a blog myself to share a little bit about my work. This year, I will take the jump and participate in my first ever online Festival : I started quilting about 2002 with an applique quilt I made for my cousin's birth. In 2003, my parents were celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary so I decided I would make them a quilt. Even though I was still a beginner, I had my heart set on making a double bed quilt and it would have to be a double wedding ring of course. The anniversary was in June. After shopping for the perfect blue/purple fabrics in a few local quilting stores. Armed with John Flynn's book and method, I started cutting my first few strips in May. Of course my quilt would not be finished in time for the date but I was progressing slowly. My Dad had...
