Bunnies, testing a pattern

Image
I haven-t had much time to sew this week between a crazy amount of work but also another birthday and some cakes but I had a deadline to keep my focus. I tested Hippity Hoppity that has been designed by Nadra I don't have an Easter quilt so this was a good one to try! The mini is made of little bunnies like this one just 4 of them that are sashed into a square and then finished into a cute little mini Now if you are looking for a quick and easy cute mini for Easter, head over to Nadra' s site to buy the pattern. Quilt stats: Fabric all from my stash Quilted with superior thread #926 and #993 Started and finished in March 2017 15' square And these are 4 blocks for March and my first OPAM Linking to Sew Cute Tuesday , Let's Bee Social , Needle and Thread Thursday , Whoop Whoop Friday . UK mini swap

Image
I didn't realised I hadn't blogged for so long but at least I have something to blog about! The UK mini swap is over which means I have sent mine to my partner and I have also received one back! I made a rainbow hexies for my partner. I made the hexies when we were on holidays so all was left was to applique them on the background fabric.  I quilted with a very simple straight line quilting to secure the hexagons.  I really like how it turned out and could have easily kept it. I also made a tiny scissor fob for my partner I have collected a few goodies to send her too. I received this fantastic mini from Heidee, I love everything about it: the design, the fabric, the colours, the quilting. and the extras too! Heidee made me some lovely pouches and send lots of extra goodies (including eatable ones, yummy!) Thanks Heidee, that was a fantastic swap. Paper piecing

Image
I have done a lot of paper piecing with the 318 Patchwork Patterns sew along. I have made more heart blocks still at 3' for my Christmas ornaments but I have made my mini for the IG mini swap using paper piecing. I choose the Celestial Star pattern from Diane which is all paper pieced. And after a bad start  (I pieced one wedge and didn't like the look of it), I changed my colour scheme to make it lighter (less colours) and I really liked how it looks. 12 wedges were needed for one block which I made at 18' square for a mini.  So 121 pieces later I had a mini, well a 18' square ready for quilting. I took inspiration from the lovely Liberty cushion I received from Alexandra for the quilting and used a blue binding to lift up the design Now I really like this mini and this design, but I sent it to my partner anyway with a few British goodies. This was one of my OPAM for November. And another one of my  Finish Along list . Linking...

It's a Sister Thing Swap

Image
Earlier in the summer, Michele proposed a fun little swap: It's a Sister Thing. I haven't got a sister (in my real life) but I have a lovely brother (although he doesn't quilt! He has other passions though) so I thought it would be a fun swap and signed up. I knew straight away that I would make a sewing kit that I had made before and cut the fabric while I was away. I noticed that Penny had joined the hexie swap so I applique some little tiny hexies on my kit. I also wanted to do a mini quilt for Penny but I wasn't sure what to make, even after stalking her. I went through my (large) collection of quilting book and selected the Fractal design from Ali's lovely Quilt Lab book which is rather neutral and made it with solids too. I really like the design and I can see more of these in my future! I decided on a spiral for the quilting to contrast with the squares in the design I finished the binding all by machine using a black batik I had left from ...
