And some blocks too

I have kept to the #blockadayjuly challenge quite well so far, and this means that I am finally catching up with my Mod Mod Along blocks. Over the last week to 2 weeks, I finished my Diagonal Bars blocks (I made 5 more) the Irish Star Chain and I started making some Spokes blocks, I have now 4 - 5 more to go I also managed to finish my Lucy Bee block for June, finally and my Bee Europa block for May and also my Little Blog bee block for July as well as make 2 new cat blocks but I put the wrong borders on so I will have to redo the borders!. So that's an additional 17 blocks and a grand total of 36 blocks for July so far for the 350-blocks challenge - wow! I have been sewing!

Yes indeed! I guess  Adrianne 's one block a day challenge has forced encouraged me to take time to sit at my machine. And I decided that my one block a day would be a block for me, not a bee block or a swap block, not a block that I am doing for someone's quilt but one for me. So for now, I have picked the Mod Mod Along blocks as I have fallen so far behind. I have completed the January, May blocks and one April block and that's all. I need to make 10 Bead on a String (February), 3 Irish Star Chain (March), 11 Diagonal Bars (April), 6 Sunrise (June) and some Spokes (July). So far this week or these first 5 days of July, I have completed 4 Diagonal Bar blocks  and one Bead on a String (and I am hoping to make one more today ;-) ) And while I was working on these blocks, I have also progressed quite a few other projects.  First I have finally finally finished my block for Christa for the Stash Bee and I also finished my last block for Siblings Together 2 qui...

Finally a few blocks

So as I said in my post yesterday, June is disappearing at the speed of light and I have hardly touched my sewing machine.... I had great plans for the month but I don't think I will cross many things of my list. Anyway, I finally finished Ana Maria's blocks for the I love Lucy International Bee I also made a block for Aneela to send to Christa and I finished my 2 Siblings Together blocks for Sue for May and the June trip-around the world ones for Teresa I made a friendship star for the Little Blog bee I love how the dots meet in some of the seams: I also made 4 more cat blocks for my quilt: 1 red, 2 yellow and 1 orange. So that's 11 blocks so far for June for the 350-blocks challenge and only a few days left.... Linking to Anything Goes Monday , Building Blocks Tuesday . Blogger's Quilt Festival - Home Machine Quilted Quilt

Image
Spring has finally arrived in my corner of the world, just in time to coincide with the Spring Blogger's Quilt Festival that Amy organises brilliantly. So many beauties to discover, so many lovely blogs to get lost into! With 11 categories to enter quilts under, there should be a fantastic range of quilts to admire! After much thoughts, I have decided to enter my Cats Quilt in the Home Machine Quilted Category . I had so much problems quilting this big top (it finishes at 72' square) because I hadn't fitted the wrong free-motion foot on my machine initially (you can read more about it here if you are interested) that it seems to be a natural choice! I made this quilt for my daughter's bed but it was a long quilt in the making. It started in February 2013 when I asked my fellow bees from Bee Europa to make blocks for me using the London Cats/Paris Cats fabrics from Benartex that I sent them. They sent me the blocks back but I still needed more to ...

And one finished UFO!

I did it! My cat quilt is finished. I machine stitched the binding last week and decided that I'd try to sew on length of thread every day for the hand stitching as there were about 7 meters to do. I had nearly finished one side Thursday night but I was so tired on Friday night that the idea of binding the quilt while watching TV really appealed to both of us (well I was the only one binding the quilt, but hubby could snuggle under it too!). I didn't quite finished it Friday night but on Saturday Miss Strawberry Shortcake wanted to do some sewing on her machine and I usually need to stay close by in case the needle needs re-threading etc that I thought it was the perfect excuse to finish her quilt. She was so happy that it was finally finished! And it was in use the exact same night! Thanks for my fellow bees from Bee Europa 2012-2013 for making most of the blocks for me. Quilt Statistics: Started February 2013 - Finished May 2014 6 x 6 blocks 12' finished ...

A Christmas gift for cat lovers

Image
Yesterday I worked on a Christmas gift that I still needed to post abroad. I had seen a lovely cushion in a craft magazine in the summer when I was going through all the magazines I had and thought that would be a great present for a cat lover. My niece is now a teenager and had a new bedroom recently so I thought I could make her a great pillow to decorate her new room. She loves cat and I made her this bag last year so I knew what to make this time. Because I haven't seen her room I decided to stick to neutral colours. I got the magazine out a few days ago and realised that although there were instructions explaining how to make the cushion but there was no pattern for the cat etc, so I decided to use the picture as inspiration and to go my own way. I have written my instructions for this cushion cover as I was making it so I will try to write a tutorial with pictures and a pattern for the cat if anyone is interested? Let me know your thoughts. Anyway, the...
