And some blocks too

Image
I have kept to the #blockadayjuly challenge quite well so far, and this means that I am finally catching up with my Mod Mod Along blocks. Over the last week to 2 weeks, I finished my Diagonal Bars blocks (I made 5 more) the Irish Star Chain and I started making some Spokes blocks, I have now 4 - 5 more to go I also managed to finish my Lucy Bee block for June, finally and my Bee Europa block for May and also my Little Blog bee block for July as well as make 2 new cat blocks but I put the wrong borders on so I will have to redo the borders!. So that's an additional 17 blocks and a grand total of 36 blocks for July so far for the 350-blocks challenge - wow! I have been sewing!

Image
Yes indeed! I guess  Adrianne 's one block a day challenge has forced encouraged me to take time to sit at my machine. And I decided that my one block a day would be a block for me, not a bee block or a swap block, not a block that I am doing for someone's quilt but one for me. So for now, I have picked the Mod Mod Along blocks as I have fallen so far behind. I have completed the January, May blocks and one April block and that's all. I need to make 10 Bead on a String (February), 3 Irish Star Chain (March), 11 Diagonal Bars (April), 6 Sunrise (June) and some Spokes (July). So far this week or these first 5 days of July, I have completed 4 Diagonal Bar blocks  and one Bead on a String (and I am hoping to make one more today ;-) ) And while I was working on these blocks, I have also progressed quite a few other projects.  First I have finally finally finished my block for Christa for the Stash Bee and I also finished my last block for Siblings Together 2 qui...

Quilt-alongs, swaps and others

Image
I know, I know, I am incorrigible! I always promise to myself that I will keep at my current projects for now and look away at the announce of a new swap or quilt-along but equally I am so weak, and I want to share the joy as well, in case you haven't discovered them yet. So lately I have signed up for Michelle 's swap "Its' a Sister Thing"  (so I will get a lovely new fabric-mad sister, what could be better?) I am planning to try and sew along to Mary's FloweringSnowball Along . I am as far as cutting the paper templates at the moment And also Debbie 's Postcard Sew-Along I am very very tempted by Diane 's Celestial Stars Quilt-Along And I love Adrianne 's new challenge of #oneblockadayjuly. So I made this block last night for my Mod Mod Quilt Along that I haven't progressed for so long... Enough for now I guess, I better get sewing. Maybe I have tempted you to try a few? Hexagon and more hexagons

Image
I seem to need a deadline to be able to work and get focused so with the mailing deadline for the Modern She Made Swap looming, I knew where to concentrate my efforts over the last week or so! The theme for the swap was hexagons, so of course I couldn't pass this round! My partner's mosaic was quite varied and I settled on a mini quilt for her. And to fit the theme I picked a quilt with hexagons which would finish in an hexagon (similar to my long-standing UFO September in the hexagon ). I went smaller in size though to have a mini quilt rather than a full size quilt. I had such a blast making my triangle quilt that I wanted to play with triangles again!). I thought I would use a rainbow of colours and use 2 fabrics per colour of very different value (one light, one dark). So I went through my stash to pick pairs of fabric for the blocks. I used 1.5' strips that I sew together and then cut into 2.5' tall equilateral triangles. I made the outer round with concentric hex...

more blocks this week

Image
In an attempt to get 30 blocks completed by the end of the month, I have been madly chain piecing this week to make more blocks. I have mainly focused on my Farmer's Wife blocks and  I completed a grand total of 10 in a week- yeah! (but I'll do a separate post with the Linky party) but I also made various other blocks. 2 more double chevrons for my Mod Along Quilt That's my January blocks completed, now I need to make 10 beads on a string for the February blocks (yes I am a bit behind already!) So these 2 chevrons along with the 2 flowers and the 10 Farmer's Wife blocks gave me 24 blocks for the month. I needed 6 more to meet the 350 blocks challenge Desperate times call for desperate measures so I started looking around my sewing room for fast and easy blocks to make before midnight! I first found a part pieced X-string block that I finished tonight: And next I targeted my Impromptu blocks. I have all the 9-patch blocks to transform into floating 9-patch ...

Wavy Dresden

Image
Last week, I finally finished my blocks for the [4x5] Modern Mini Bee. I made my interpretation of the Wavy Dresden for my fellow bees. And because I left it to the last minute, I realised too late that I didn't have enough background fabric for 2 of my blocks. So I reorder some fabric that arrived mid-week and finished my blocks to send them off. I missed the deadline by just under a week sadly but at least all my blocks are on their way now! And I have also received all my blocks for this quarter from my fellow bees. I now have to sit out the next quarter, a great opportunity to look at the blocks I have so far and decide whether I need more for my quilt or not... if I get the time, that is! Here are all the blocks together

More bee blocks

Our house is slowly getting back to some normality. Today has been a very good day and a big step forward, we now have 3 fully functional bedrooms. Mr Cars is sleeping in his new bedroom for the first time tonight. And the girls are now sleeping in the same room until the fourth bedroom is finished (hopefully by next week-end). The office/sewing room is slowly filling up as well. And also I should be moving things around and organising our stuff in my free time, I try to sew a little bit in the evening if I can, just to keep my sanity! So last time I played catch up with some of my Bee blocks.

Modern Mini RR reveal

Image
Today is the big day where finally all the mini quilts that travelled all the way around the world in the last few  months are revealed! Michele organised the Round Robin for us all and did a brilliant job at keeping everyone on track.

Work in progress

Well, another week of sewing in different directions, progressing various projects! I have finally made a start on my panel for the Holiday Lane Christmas Pillow blog hop starting soon over at Sew we Quilt  but... I will only show you a very small peak and keep the surprise for my stop on the hop in 2 weeks time. Sorry just teasing with this one!

Plain sailing

I am slowly catching up with my Bee blocks for October. I don't know where the month disappeared but I didn't finish all my blocks in time... In the Modern Minx Beginner Bee  we are making blocks from the Modern Blocks: 99 Quilt Blocks book. October was Amelie's month and she picked Set Sail to make a quilt for her toddler daughter, asking for soft colours.

Bee blocks

Image
Today I finished assembling my own Modern Minx Beginner Bee block. I was the Queen Bee in September and choose the Diamond Ripple block. I had cut out all the squares and assembled all the HSTs but I hadn't put the block together yet. So yesterday evening I tried a game of sudoku with my HSTs, which wasn't as easy as I thought, to avoid having 2 of the same HSTs in a line or column and after a few attempts, I think I succeeded! I also worked on Johanna's block for Bee Europa 2012 . She has asked us to make some paper-pieced letters, I had "a" and "o". My blocks are done and ready to go to her for her quilt for a little brother. And I also worked on my Happy Cloud for the Super Marion quilt-along but this one is still a WIP. I will be linking this post to Sinta's BOM Rehab tomorrow. Celine

Diamond Ripples

Image
September was my month for the Modern Minx Beginner Bee where we are making blocks from the Modern Blocks: 99 Quilt Blocks from Your Favorite Designers book. I picked Diamond Ripples block and asked my fellow bee to use a white background with a mixture of the yellow, lime, orange, light blue/aqua and red prints. I haven't received all my blocks yet but I can share with you the lovely blocks I have to date. The first one I got was from Flaun this one arrived from Connie  and these 2 from Helen and her mum this one was from Laura and I still need to finish mine. I have all my HST sewn together, I "just need" to put them in a block now. I should still be getting a few more but with those already I can see a lovely spring quilt. Celine

My Modern Mini quilt Round Robin is back!

Image
Yes it is.   I received a lovely parcel yesterday with my Mini Modern Round robin top. If you remember, I pieced the starting centre block in March this year and sent it off.   Because this was a secret swap, I hadn't see my block since I sent it off so I had absolutely no clue of what to expect... until I opened the lovely wrapped parcel yesterday to reveal...   well sorry to disappoint you but the grand reveal date is 19 November so you'll have to wait until then to see it... I am just teasing you for now... ;-) Celine

One-patch log cabin

Image
I have been running late with the Modern Round Robin last month and I only finished adding my border. I received a lovely top from America mid-September but I hadn't found the time to add my touch until last week. The top is basically a giant log cabin block. I looked and looked and looked at it wondering what I could add to it but decided that it would be better to stick with the log cabin. So I picked 2 colours from the top (purple and bright green) that I thought would lift the top to make my logs. And to add a little twist to my log, I pieced two of them with a square of the complementary fabric - this is my one-patch cabin! Well this top is now on its way to its last stop until it gets back to its owner in November for the big reveal! Celine

Bee blocks

Image
I have been a Busy Bee... this week-end, catching up on some of my Bee blocks. I have lately signed up for a few new bees and it is of course keeping me busy! Sew Euro-Bee-an is in its first month. Helen sent us her package and said she wanted some sea glass inspired blocks using tiny 9-patch and others. I must admit that for a while I wasn't sure what to do beyond 9-patch blocks. And then on Friday during the Friday Night Sew-in, I decided to take the plunge and try to make her blocks. I opened the pack of fabric she had sent and started cutting random sizes squares and playing with them to see where that would lead me. I decided that each of my block would have 2 9-patch blocks complemented by other blocks. And my siggy block in blue EEEEP EPP BEE has started in the summer and I hadn't completed a set of blocks yet. Danielle had sent us some Kona Black fabric that she wanted us to use with some solids or almost solid fabrics in jewel tones to make her 2 Treasure...
