Linus quilt

It has been a very wet day, both inside and outside. I got up with baby Girl this morning to find that water was dripping from the ceiling in the living room on the sofa and on the floor. Charming! A pipe near the hot water cylinder had a leak and the water had accumulated between the floor board before dripping down. We had a visit from a plumber as part as a home emergency cover but all they do then is stop the leak, they don't repair it so no heating and no hot water for us until it's fixed, great with 3 kids. Thankfully we have an immersion heater for the hot water. And because it is so horrible and wet outside, the kids couldn't play in the garden much and we couldn't get the sofa to dry either. Grrr...

Anyway back to the topic of my post.
Earlier this year, my quilting group proposed a challenge to all who wanted to play. We were each given 2 FQs to make a baby quilt for the annual fete in June: one spotty fabric (white on turquoise) and one of the Alphabet soup fabric by Riley Blake.
All the quilts will all be given to children via the Linus project and received my 2 FQ in March and decided straight away that I would make a quilt using the cutting plan described in Barbara Chainey's book Fast Quilts from Fat Quarters but I hadn't pulled out fabric from my stash until last week when I picked a red by Makower, a plain white, a yellow and orange fabric from the Oh Boy collection by Free Spirit and a green fabric by Timeless Treasure
I planned my quilt to be 36' by 44' finished made of 3 x 12' blocks


5 x 8' blocks




 and 33 x 4' blocks/pieces like these ones
Can you spot all the individual blocks in my quilt?

I framed it with a narrow white border and a wider red one.
And free motion quilted with a variegated green thread.
I used some Maisy fabric for the backing.
All finished and given away on Saturday morning and one more OPAM on my list.
I am so happy I finished it on time and also happy to see that I CAN make a baby quilt in little more than a week. Deadlines are great to keep focused I think.

    Great quilt, great cause! Baby quilts are so good because the size means they can be made up fast. Your stash really supported the challenge fabrics well!

September in the Hexagon!

Welcome to my stop on the Hexie Blog Hop Be a Hexie Queen ! I am a hexie lover and always have an emergency supply of hexies in my bag for when I am on-the-go (which is actually very often) and when I first signed up for the blog hop, I thought I would show you a EPP (English Paper Piecing) hexie project. That was until I remembered a long forgotten UFO that was laying in a plastic bag in my cupboard. I thought it would be the perfect occasion to get the dist and cobwebs out (no it wasn't that bad really) and give it a new lease of life! It is snowing...

Well not really where I am. It is pouring down with rain and it is very windy too. But it has been snowing in my sewing room! If you have arrived from the Holiday Lane Pillow  blog hop , welcome!
