Work in progress and a giveaway

I have been doing a lot of chain piecing at the sewing machine lately to make various blocks for bees, swaps etc. I like to cut all my fabric at once so it is all ready by the machine for the piecing and then I'll sew as much as I can to have a big stack to take to the ironing board. I find it works well for me and save me time. I read a while ago about leaders and enders on Bonnie Hunter site Quiltville and try to have some available as much as possible. My leaders and enders at the moment are my tiny squares for my postage stamp Super Mario block.
I have a fat Yoshi, ready to be "Squared up" hopefully by the end of the week
and half a fat jumping Mario.
I will be linking this to WIP Wednesday over at Freshly Pieced

Now for the giveaway, I have a spare copy of Popular Patchwork Magazine for September to give away.
Just leave me a comment telling me how you like to work on your projects. Do you take it one step at a time or do you try to cut all, sew all etc? Do you use leaders and enders to save time and thread?  Any other tips you want to share? I'll pick a winner next week some time.

Edited to add: Winner is #1 from Random Generator. Amy will received the magazine above when I get her address. Thanks to all for your comments.

Till next time,
Celine

  1. One step at a time for me otherwise I'd get them all mixed up! I'm in 4 bees so if I lost track of which fabric was for which person I'd be out of luck!!

  3. First off I love the Yoshi! Soooo stinking cute. I think you have serious guts taking on a project like that and its going to look amazing when its done. Second I am definitely a step by stepper. I have to go in order or I inevitably screw something up however I have been known to start numerous projects at a time and be cutting one project while pinning another.

  4. I go step by step - saves on confusion and a lot of back ache, I also bet a bit bored doing the same thing over and over - I like to ring the changes. It makes me fee like I'm making progress!

  6. Ooh, Yoshi will look fab. I'm planning to make a huge Yoshi quilt to be finished by January. At the moment I'm contemplating the design and yardage requirements. Once I've received my order I will pretreat my fabrics colour by colour and get cutting. Yep, step by step approach. :)
