365 quilt challenge

Image
The challenge started in 2016 and I started the same year. Kathryn has repeated it every year since and I have miserably failed to make much progress really. Last year, I only pieced 5 of the 3'' blocks, just 5 tiny teeny blocks from October, that I didn't even post here. I also had a sixth one (11th October) cut out but I never managed to piece it until this week. And while I was making this one, I also did the bonus block for 1st January that was released this year. I managed to sew that one wrong 3 times before I did correctly. Twice the pinwheel in the middle was anything but and the first time I even had some of the pieces with the wrong side up... You know when you think, I should really go to bed... oh but I'm nearly there, I'll finish this first. Yes exactly... And I also cut the block for December 31st, which is a 6'' one with mitered corner and covered corner. I misread the instructions on this one so there was some unpicking there too. And now ...

PhD in 2021?

Image
2021 could be the year to get my UFO under control? I think I need some help so I will be joining Quilting Gail on her quest to PhD  in 2021 I have far more than 12 UFOs sadly (more like 30+), but the 12 I would like to finish in 2021 are: 1. Retro Tetro (started 2020) - I need to finish sewing the binding and bury the gazillions of threads 2. Snowflake (started 2020) - this one needs quilting 3. Super Mario quilt (started 2012) - this one needs a few more blocks 4. Halo quilt (started 2020)- blocks are not yet completed, more cutting to do too. 5. Harry Potter (started 2019) - 8 blocks completed? 6. Gipsy Wife (started 2017) - needs lots of blocks 7. Modern HST (started 2016) - 1 block needed but I don't have enough background left 8. Project 48 (started 2016)- what to do with those blocks? 9. Sewing Studio banner (started 2018) - partly pieced 10. Impromptu (started 2013) - some blocks completed 11. Storm at Sea (started 2010) - needs more blocks 12. 365 challenge (started...

2021 Q1 FAL

Image
The Finish-Along is back and I am really happy about it. I think I missed it last quarter. Even though I always end up with a far too long list that I have no hope of achieving in said quarter.. Anyway I should really try to focus on a few makes but then I never know which will pick my fancy and I have so many UFOs! Quilts: 1.  Modern HST triangles -  I have 23 blocks completed and not enough background fabric to make the 24th block from the pattern. I should decide what to do with these. Either finish the quilt or get rid of it... It is 5 years since I started this BOM so a decision is required. 2. Project 48 quilt with a few Solstice challenge blocks - another one started 5 years ago. I don't think I will be making any more blocks so I should either finish it or get rid of it too. 3. Farmer's Wife - my goal with this one is to have a finished quilt in 2022 to gift to my mum. I doubt I will work on it soon as the deadline is quite far away but who knows...   ...

Happy New Year

Image
Like many, I am happy to see the back of 2020, it has been such a difficult year around the world, and sadly it is not yet over. However, after such an unsettling year, I wish you all the best for 2021, hoping that those difficult memories of 2020 will in time fade away, when we can finally get back to a more natural way of life. I am also hoping that this unprecedented time for our world will help shape the future for the better so that everyone can live a more peaceful and balanced life. With all my best wishes for a safe and healthy 2021! Celine

December Furtle

Image
Another month over, and another year as well. And what a year! With so much time at home, I think I have been more productive than I am normally and I am pleased that December has been a particularly good month for my sewing. I finished most of the gifts I wanted to give on time, which is always a bonus! Both the hexie bear rug and the Tinsel Tree quilt are finished and gifted The Christmas PJ were delivered on Christmas Eve and my Moneta is also finished, just! I have made 5 pouches and gifted almost all of them The Retro Tetro quilt has the binding on, I just need to hand sew it on the back now. Linking to December Furtle . Celine

Glittery Moneta

Image
Probably my last finish of the year, I put the last stitches on my glittery Moneta dress yesterday evening, ready for the non-party on 31st!  I bought the fabric in the Black Friday sale in November 2019 but I never managed to make anything with it last year before the end of year festivities. I had kept it on my to-do list last year and eventually cut a Moneta in spring that I thought of finishing for Easter. Well no need to remind you what happened in spring but priorities moved to sewing some NHS scrub and the cut pieces fell deep in the UFO basket... Well, I unearthed everything earlier this week with a goal of having a new dress for the new year and I am happy that I can fulfil that goal.  The Moneta dress is not a new pattern since I have made another 2 but this is first time I try it with the collar. I like the look of it, it makes the dress quite different I think. As with the others, I lengthen the bodice by 5cm because I am tall but otherwise I didn't make a...
