April in review

Image
Another month has come and gone, how is that possible really? I am not sure how much I have to report really, it feels like another month has gone in a flash. Let's see... I finally made some bags for my quilting frame parts And while the quilting frame was out, I quilted 3 tops one is now completely finished! I also cut out fabric for a new QAL (I know, I know...) And I worked on 3 other projects that I haven't manage to finsh: a Persephone purse, a raincoat and a swimming costume. Linking to April Furtle Celine

A new QAL...

I might have joined a new QAL .... I know, I know, I have badly fallen behind with the 2 I already joined this year but I just couldn't resist the Flabellum pattern . And the good news is that I have already cut all the 576 pieces of fabric I need for it. Surely that should speed up the process? Watch this space.... Sewing Studio

A finish! The Sewing Studio wall-hanging that I quilted last month is now all done!  I finished sewing the binding yesterday and all that was left for today was to bury the threads. Thankfully there weren't that many for this mini (this is always my least favorite part of the finish...) I am so pleased with it and happy it is finished. Paper pieced in 2020 Quilted matchstick style with King Tut #971 in March 2021 Finished in April 2021 Backing fabric - one very old piece from my stash Another OPAM, one of my Q2 FAL list and my OMG for April too. Quilting frame bags

Image
Not exactly exciting sewing today but I am happy I have done it. After finishing my quilting, we took the frame apart but I didn't put it away. I have been meaning to make some bags to keep the parts of the frame together for quite some time but never got around to it. I guess it is quite a boring and easy project so it has not been top priority.  And I knew that if I put the parts away I would still not make them. So this afternoon, I went into my stash where I found a bed sheet (?) that someone gave me a while ago. I  made one bag for the rods from part of it with it My rods are 7ft long so the bag was very long! And another one for the side panels and the "tray".  I went to the trouble of hemming the top correctly  and also to serge the sides And now my quilting frames part are stored away in 2 drawstring bags. First one of my Q2 FAL list and first finishes for April. Linking to    M onday Making ,   Monday Design Wall ,  Midweek Makers ,...

Free-motion quilting

The last 2 weeks have been school holidays for the kids and the original plan was to travel back to France. Sadly, with Covid cases on the rise in France, it just hasn't been possible. Regardless, I had a week off just before Easter and lots of plans for hours of sewing. Well, it didn't quite work out on the hours of sewing and cutting, I hardly did any in the end. Thinking about it I am not sure what I did! Anyway, once the Super Mario quilt top was ready for quilting, I got my quilting frame out and set up. Again I was planning to have it put away before Easter but in the end that didn't work out either.... Anyway, the first top on the frame was Super Mario, which is rather big the sashing and borders, and took 11 bobbins to quilt!  The second one was my snowflake top that I finished last December. I had planned to quilt that one before Christmas but that was when my machine decided to stop working so it had to wait until the next quilting session. This one only took 3 bo...

Q2 FAL

Image
A new quarter, full of hopes for the spring... hope that some of our freedom will return, hope that the weather will improve and give me some energy, hope that I will finish all the projects on my list, hope that we will finally be able to cross the Channel and visit family? I think this quarter will be very busy too with "life" so I am not sure how much I will get through really but let's try! Quilts: 1.  Modern HST triangles -  I have 23 blocks completed and not enough background fabric to make the 24th block from the pattern. I should decide what to do with these. Either finish the quilt or get rid of it... It is 5 years since I started this BOM so a decision is required. 2. Project 48 quilt with a few Solstice challenge blocks - another one started 5 years ago. I don't think I will be making any more blocks so I should either finish it or get rid of it too. 3. Farmer's Wife - my goal with this one is to have a finished quilt in 2022 to gift to my mum. I doubt ...

Q1 FAL - recap

Image
So a quarter of the year is over already and so far, it hasn't been very different from 2020. We have been in lockdown for most of it, with the kids home schooled until 8 March. We were all happy when they finally returned to school, and the increase daylight was much welcomed too... Of course I haven't crossed as many projects as I was dreaming I would but I have made some progress on a few and finished some too... Quite a lot will be on the next quarter list, unless they finally get dropped by getting some love from someone else... Quilts: 1.  Modern HST triangles - a decision is still required. 2. Project 48 quilt with a few Solstice challenge blocks - a decision is still required 3. Farmer's Wife - no progress 4.  Farmer's Wife 1930 -  no progress 5. Gipsy Wife -  no progress 6. Enchanted Stars -  no progress 7.  365-challenge - I made a few more blocks but not as many as I would have wanted... 8. Kingfisher quilt -  no progress 9. Super Mar...
